Training Program for leadership in science centres
The first Euro-Mediterranean and Middle East Summer School, Granada, 22-27 September 2013
Why the EMME Summer School?
The Euro-Mediterranean and Middle East Summer School for Science Communication (EMME Summer School) aims to set-up a Euro-Mediterranean program for science centres and any other organisation working for the public engagement in science, in order to reinforce their capacities, to strengthen dialogue and exchange, and to increase the community of players in the region.
To promote the sharing of ideas, experiences, contacts, etc. several Ecsite LinkedIn groups have been created:
Traveling exhibitions: A place to discuss anything related to traveling exhibitions touring science centres and museums in Europe.
Social media: A group to discuss social media use and impact among science centres and museums.
Scicom Dreams: museums and science centres of the future: A group to share our wildest dreams for sciences centres and museums
**These three groups are sub-groups of the general Science centres and museums in Europe.
Ecsite is helping Città della Scienza restart its activities by coordinating donations of exhibits. This is to facilitate Città’s accumulation of exhibit collections according to the hands-on tradition typical of science centres.
Attached below are step-by-step instructions on how to you can lend an exhibit to Città using the traveling exhibitions database for Europe, www.extrascience.eu.
Please read the instructions carefully as they will help make the loaning process smooth.
The Ecsite Annual General Meeting happens every year in conjunction with the Ecsite Annual Conference – this year on 7 June 2013 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Full members will vote for a new President as well as for trustees of the Board.
The 2013 presidential election is significant since it is the first time Ecsite has launched a call for this position. Ecsite’s Internal Regulations, which stipulate an open call for presidential candidates, had not yet been adopted at the time of the 2011 elections.

This year’s Pre-Conference topic is: ARE YOU READY FOR ROSETTA ?
In November 2014, the European Space Agency spacecraft Rosetta will send a lander on the comet Churyumov – Gerasimenko.
There’s a number of good reasons to book the Ecsite Nature Group preconference day this year. If you are interested in meeting like-minded colleagues who deal with issues related to nature, we invite you to join us in the Nature Group. The group brings together collegues working in Science Centres, Natural History museums, Botanic Gardens, Aquariums, Zoos and all those who work with nature-related topics. This year our programme is of great interest for those whose institutes are in the middle of change, or preparing to renew their museum or institute.
