Institute for Plastination - Body Worlds Exhibition

“BODY WORLDS. The Exhibition of Real Human Bodies” is the original and first of its kind anatomical exhibition by the inventor of Plastination, Dr. Gunther von Hagens.

It focuses on around 200 authentic specimens– individual organs, transparent slices and corrosion specimens, as well as a series of whole-body plastinates in lifelike poses.

The plastinates on display stem from a legitimate body donation programme that is administered by the Heidelberg Institute for Plastination and supervised by local authorities.

Visitors can experience the display as much as they would a three-dimensional textbook: anatomy as the foundation of the body is laid out in an educational and elucidating fashion throughout the different systems of the human body. Special focus is laid on illustrating the effects of current diseases such as diabetes, heart attack or cancer.

The different exhibitions have been constantly upgraded since 1995, many of them focus on particular health themes or phenomena, like aging, the heart, vitality etc.

With more than 40 million visitors, the BODY WORLDS Exhibitions are among the most popular traveling museum exhibitions in the world.
