Over the past few years, the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site has conducted and presented extensive research into forced labourers at Völklinger Hütte. The internationally renowned French artist Christian Boltanski has now created a memorial for the people who were forced to work at Völklinger Hütte. The result is an emotional work of art that keeps the memory of these people alive. The major installation by Christian Boltanski in the Völklinger Hütte sintering plant engages with the issue of forced labour in a new and deeply moving way.
Christian Boltanski was also inspired by the daily work performed by the ironworkers and has dedicated a large temporary installation to them and their emotions. In addition to the forced labour memorial site, he has created a major installation in memory of the workers at Völklinger Hütte. Located in the 800-square-metre ore shed, this installation comprises ninety-one atmospherically illuminated lockers from all parts of the ironworks. The voices of former ironworkers recalling their work at Völklinger Hütte resonate from the lockers.

There are many ways in which robots could improve healthcare and wellbeing: robotic surgeons are already being used in highly intricate operations, including to treat patients with pancreatic and kidney cancer; in our aging society, robots could help to care for the elderly with humanoid carers; while the many people who are unable to drive for health reasons could find greater independence thanks to driverless cars.

Elizabeth II is a living legend; her life spans an entire epoch. Indeed, during her reign, she has seen the terms of office of all German Federal Chancellors to date, as well as those of British Prime Ministers from Winston Churchill through to Theresa May. Queen Elizabeth II is, moreover, the most portrayed person of the 20th and 21st centuries. With its many depictions of the Queen, this exhibition brings to life the 90 years of her reign.

Summer, sweltering temperatures, sunshine, and …refreshing mist? This unlikely mixture was recently staged by the Effektschmiede on the square in front of the science centre phaeno in Wolfsburg, Germany. In intervals of half an hour, the four beds of reeds surrounded by seating areas that reach out of the minimalistic, grey square are enveloped in manmade, water-based fog – we do not rely on artificial, chemical fog. The environs are thereby turned into climatic microcosms of their own: the temperatures go down and humidity-levels rise.
During November and December, the Effektschmiede joined the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's North America tour, operating two 3MTC Tesla Coils which were synchronised to the Orchestra's hard rock jingles. Night after night, the coils and the lights created stunning optics on stage.
Recently we were visited by Noah Levi, together with the production crew of Jive Germany, to film the music video for his new song ‘Sonne oder Regen’. The Effektschmiede Team pulled out all the stops and took charge of lighting, set design, and the production of rain, fog and lightning effects. Noah’s music video dropped on Friday the 19th of July and today we’re sharing our very own making-of video. Noah Levi – Sonne oder Regen Special thanks go to Nicolas Vargas for his great help with the making-of video.
