A two-part workshop series in May will explore the practical and ecological aspects of foraging and urban gardening, combining field experience with scientific knowledge. Participants will learn about wild edible plants and small-scale vegetable growing through guided activities and hands-on sessions.

On 24 May, a workshop on wild edible plants will take place in Kolibki Park. The event will be led by Kasia Banaś, a wildlife educator.

The programme will include a field walk where participants will learn how to identify and safely collect seasonal edible plants. The workshop will also cover the preparation of the harvested plants and their potential importance for nutrition and sustainable lifestyles. The event is aimed at people with an interest in nature and food.
The meeting will end with the preparation and tasting of snacks made from the collected plants. The exact location of the meeting in Kolibki Park will be announced at a later date.

The second event in the series, a workshop on growing vegetables on the balcony, will take place on 31 May. The venue will be Przystań 49 Śmidowicza Street (Community Centre). The workshop will be led by CNE trainer Zbigniew.

During the workshop, participants will learn how to grow vegetables on a balcony, even with a small space. The workshop will provide practical tips based on the knowledge of practitioners and scientific publications. There will also be a practical part. The programme includes

  • Selecting plants for the location and season,
  • Preparing a good substrate,
  • Natural methods of pest control,
  • The most effective methods of balcony growing.

Participants will have the opportunity to prepare the soil and plant the plants. The principles of sowing and the possibilities of combining plants in a container to create an 'edible pot' of vegetables and edible flowers will also be discussed.
