Job: CERN Science Show Developer

Are you an enthusiastic science communicator who feels comfortable performing in front of diverse audiences? Are you passionate about engaging visitors in science experiments and inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers? CERN are recruiting a Science Show Developer, deadline to apply is 15 March.

CERN offers an exciting opportunity to develop science shows in its major new project, Science Gateway (sciencegateway.cern). One of Science Gateway’s offers will be interactive science shows, through which visitors of all ages will be able to explore their scientific curiosity and learn about the science, the discoveries and the technologies at CERN.

This position is for developing, testing, and evaluating science shows for CERN's Science Gateway, planned to open at the end of 2022. The successful candidate will join the Teacher and Student Programmes section (TSP) within CERN's Education, Communications and Outreach Group (ECO) in summer 2021 and support the Science Gateway Team.

As Science Show Developer, you will

  • Collect and explore new ideas for activities and narratives of science shows related to the science, the discoveries and the technologies at CERN in collaboration with members of CERN's scientific community as well as external partners;
  • Develop, test, and evaluate science shows for different groups of learners following the principles of Design Based Research;
  • Prepare the developed science shows for the start of operations of Science Gateway;
  • Facilitate science shows for diverse groups.
  • Contribute to other aspects of the science shows such as risk assessments, equipment orders, promotion, or volunteer management and training;
  • Follow developments in Science Education Research about out-of-school science learning and story-telling in science education, and contribute to the team's research efforts, as appropriate.
