UMS Pythéas / OSU Pythéas

The Observatoire des Sciences de l’Univers (OSU) Institut Pythéas is a Department of the Université d’Aix-Marseille and is also affiliated to the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD). Pythéas federates five establishments which are : the Centre Européen de Recherche et d’Enseignement des Géosciences de l’Environnement (CEREGE), the Institut Méditerranéen de Biodiversité et d’Ecologie marine et continentale (IMBE), the Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille (LAM), the Laboratoire Population Environnement Développement(LPED), and the Institut Méditerranéen d’océanologie (MIO). Our Institute covers a large range of scientific area in Earth sciences, Environmental sciences and Universe sciences (astronomy, geosciences, ecology and biodiversity, oceanology and interaction between society and environment…). With over 1000 persons working for this Institute over 11 sites, Pythéas is one of the most important research institutes in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Among our mains missions we find: enrich our knowledge of the universe, instrumentation design, promote industrial spin-offs, participate in university education and carry out ambitious public outreach programmes.
