LATRA

LATRA is a non-profit organisation which in response to the Europe’s current humanitarian crisis set-up an innovation lab inside a refugee camp in Lesvos-Greece, enabling world-class science and technology professionals, educational practitioners, artists, digital innovators and social entrepreneurs, to co-create alongside the refugee community, technology-driven creative projects that directly respond to societal challenges and accelerate the UN Sustainable Development Goals. LATRA’s vision is to empower marginalized communities across the world, with technology, creative skills and access to the cultural sector, to address the adversities they face, and to become not just actors in their lives but directors of their future, creating an EU society which is inclusive, adaptive, sustainable and resilient. Projects financed by the European Commission (H2020), European Cultural Foundation (NL), European Union National Institutes for Culture (GR), Stimuleringsfonds (NL) and Nordisk Kulturkontakt (FI). For its innovative practice in Greece, LATRA was awarded the Intercultural Achievement Recognition Award by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2018), won the International UNCOVER Design Prize (2018), and first place in the Global Be.Creative Competition (2017). LATRA is a member of the global UNICEF Design Pool, and has produced humanitarian design innovation projects in Greece, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, South Africa & Qatar.
