Over the past few years, the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site has conducted and presented extensive research into forced labourers at Völklinger Hütte. The internationally renowned French artist Christian Boltanski has now created a memorial for the people who were forced to work at Völklinger Hütte. The result is an emotional work of art that keeps the memory of these people alive. The major installation by Christian Boltanski in the Völklinger Hütte sintering plant engages with the issue of forced labour in a new and deeply moving way.
Christian Boltanski was also inspired by the daily work performed by the ironworkers and has dedicated a large temporary installation to them and their emotions. In addition to the forced labour memorial site, he has created a major installation in memory of the workers at Völklinger Hütte. Located in the 800-square-metre ore shed, this installation comprises ninety-one atmospherically illuminated lockers from all parts of the ironworks. The voices of former ironworkers recalling their work at Völklinger Hütte resonate from the lockers.

In February 2019 we were contracted to design, develop and fabricate interactives for Skaperhagen (Creative Garden) gallery at Vilvite Science Center in Bergen, Norway. Skaperhagen invites to take on creative challenges of invention and building using a variety of materials. Working alone or in teams, visitors envision technological solutions and create them from the different odds and ends provided. It is a place to think, experiment and above all, have fun. In Skaperhagen there is no such thing as a bad idea. The new interactive exhibits are on show since June 2019.
End of 2008, we were contracted to design and build initial exhibitry for experimenta, which opened a year later in Heilbronn, Germany. Over 100 exhibits, from sketch to opening
After a tremendous three-year journey we are so excited that Germany’s most innovative science center has opened its doors. NorthernLight, in partnership with Bruns, has been responsible for the design, prototyping and construction of two of the four permanent galleries: Nature of Things, and World View. The journey involved the making of over 100 unique exhibits, activities and art-science installations. At its height, there was a team of over 50 people working in harmony to make all of this happen.
In December 2014 we were awarded an engineering and build contract to equip half of Floor 2 of GSC with Powering the Future. This gallery focuses on the science and technology used to supply energy in Scotland and the UK and highlights key issues that society is likely to face in the not too distant future. It is the most ambitious exhibition of its kind in the UK.
