Museo Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnologia

The natural marvels of the Canary Islands were widely related by the prominent visitors that passed by these Islands in the last centuries. All of them from Feuillee or Humboldt to Sventenius, were fascinated by the geography, the fauna and the exuberant vegetation that the Islands offered, as well as by the mysteries of their prehistory. Darwin used to tell about the sadness he felt for not having been able to visit them when he passed them by on his memorable trip aboard the Beagle. They all came to discover and explore the overflowing nature these Islands hoard in order to make Science.

The English, since the late XIX century, brought modern tourists, the ones that looked for some rest and sun. The most modern transatlantic ships were welcome here, at the Elder House. They arrived full with visitors with different customs, which influenced those of the islanders.

Nowadays, when we receive more than ten million tourists per year, when researchers from all around the world come to centres such as the Astrophysics Institute of the Canary Islands, even when volcanism, and the sea bed of our Islands still motivate scientist to study them. We have changed the old Elder House into the Elder Museum of Science and Technology.
