Drop in and play with atoms

Following the “Having fun with the periodic table of the elements” session, take the time to play a new board game connecting sustainability issues with the periodic table, try to fill up the periodic table by scanning virtual everyday objects or go atom hunting with a Pokemon Go-like app.

If you have designed or know a game related to atoms and the periodic table, feel free to bring it along to share. Come by anytime to enjoy a playful moment and stay as long as you wish.

Chemist and educator (and mother of dragons by the way!), I am working on chemistry education in Navet Science centre. Working on an exhibit project on the periodic table of the elements, I will display a new boardgame connecting sustainability issues with the periodic table in a playfull way (ideal for 10-15 years old)

Specialist in games design co-construction, I will present a brand new game, spin off of the ATOME HÔTEL project (www.atome-hotel.fr); the gameplay was created by mixing teenagers, chemists, science disseminators, teachers, and was tested many times with teenagers. Come and play with us !

In this workshop, we’ll take a close look at the new interactive game wall we’ve developed together with CREATE, in which visitors try to fill up the periodic table by scanning virtual everyday objects. Also, Philip Marynissen will introduce a Go-like app 'ResourCity', developed by the Flemish research organisation VITO. We’ll discuss the fine balance between developing an awesome game and putting the right amount of learning content into it.
