WATER-MINING

The main objective of WATER-MINING project is to contribute to the implementation of the Water Framework Directive and the Circular Economy packages by showcasing and validating innovative water resources solutions. The project has selected a number of innovative technologies that reached proof of concept levels under previous EU project. The demonstration case studies are to be first implemented in five EU countries (The Netherlands, Spain, Cyprus, Portugal and Italy) where prior successful technical and social steps have already been accomplished.

The vision:

We are in year 2030. The global agenda for climate and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is being evaluated to check progress. Among the most critical components put on the table is the water crisis and how it interconnects with other key sectors like energy and climate, as well as with society and the economy at large. We realize that the projections that global water demand was to exceed sustainable supply by 40% in 2030, has indeed come true. We are ready to celebrate achieving the SDGs related to water (SDG6) and other associated SDGs (like SDG12) and can start planning on how to adopt these challenges widely at global scale to become climate neutral and water secure by 2050.

WATER-MINING:

In order to fulfill this vision, WATER-MINING aims to take part in the real-world implementations of the Water Framework Directive and the Circular Economy packages by showcasing and validating innovative next generation water resource solutions at pre-commercial demonstration scale. The project will integrate selected innovative technologies that have reached proof of concept levels under previous EU projects.

Ecsite, together with NEMO, Parque de las Ciencias and SciCo will be developing a programme of citizens’ engagement with water services in CE. Using a modular exhibition, innovative public engagement formats adn advanced ICT tools, they will work to bring circular water systems into the public attention and improve social impact awarenessand understanding of the opportunities in closing the water cycle.
