Science communication in the post truth world: a workshop

Denying science and scientific facts and refusing rational and logical thought are becoming common attitudes. Fierce debates regarding issues like vaccination, climate change or GMOs take center stage in the media, at the same time as mystical and absurd fads are quietly spreading through Europe and the world, making the acceptance of magical thought, the mistrust of science, and the abuse of scientific terminology a common practice even among people that claim to be scientifically literate.
This is unquestionably a problem concerning science communication, but what we know at present about post truth shows we cannot address this issue with our “normal” activities. This session's objective is to come up with a practical framework for assessing the effectiveness of anti post truth activities, and to establish a community of practitioners that will further develop and share it.
More about this session: We will address post truth in a practical way: a number of concrete practices will be collected, and their promoters will be invited to this workshop as facilitators of working groups. Existing practices and new ideas for practical approaches will be very succinctly presented. The participants will develop a number of questions in relation to each practice.
