Ötzi- the Iceman

On September 19th 1991, a mountain-climbing couple found a body in the Ötztal Alps. The glacier have had preserved the man's body for about 5,300 years. The oldest completely preserved mummy in the world

The centrepiece of the exhibition is a lifelike figure of Ötzi complete with clothing and equipment. The equipment found with the mummy was reconstructed step by step from original materials.

In addition to 9 banners and various showcase texts, the exhibition is divided into the following sections:

  • Exhibition Part "Site of crime" consists of 3 ground posters, crime scene markings, as well as a large picture banner of the Hauslabjoch          
  • Exhibition Part "Pathology" represent a dissecting table as well as the reconstruction of the skull of Ötzi and 3 pollen models and 2 big banners
  • Exhibition Part "Investigator's Office" consists of a cork wall with various newspaper articles and pictures of the find
  • Exhibition Part "Installation of the reconstruction" exhibit the "Ötzi-reconstruction" with clothing and handaxe
  • Exhibition Part "What Ötzi carried" consists of the backpack, his shoes, his cape and various small items
  • Exhibition Part "Tools and Weapons" consists of authentic replicas of all tools and materials Ötzi carried with him like his arrows
  • Exhibition Part "Copper Axe" demonstrates the process of copper axe production
  • Exhibition Part "Materials" shows all raw materials Ötzi used for the production of his clothing and equipment
