Directors Forum

Every autumn, the senior managers of Ecsite's Full member institutions meet for a two-day seminar to exchange views, make trends and discuss key developments in science engagement. Each year, the event is hosted by one of the participating organisations and strategic discussions centre around a special theme.

Every autumn, the Senior Managers of Ecsite's Full Member institutions meet for a two-day seminar to exchange views, make trends and discuss key developments in science engagement: this is the Directors Forum, a carefully orchestrated mix of strategic talks, peer learning, networking and local highlights.

13 November 2019 - 15 November 2019

The 2019 edition took place in Trondheim, Norway and was hosted by the Trondheim Science Centre in partnership with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. 65 participants gathered to discuss the theme "Future thinking - the Sustainable Development Goals as an opportunity for developing organisations". 

14 November 2018 - 16 November 2018

The Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona, together with Barcelona Ciència, hosted the 2018 Ecsite Directors Forum on 14-16 November 2018. 68 Senior Managers of Ecsite Full member organisations got together for 2.5 days of networking, high-profile talks and workshops and peer learning. 

4 October 2017 - 6 October 2017

Universcience hosted the 2017 Ecsite Directors Forum at Cité des sciences de l'industrie in Paris, France, on 4-6 October 2017. 70+ Senior Managers of Ecsite Full member organisations go together, making it the largest Directors Forum to date. 

16 November 2016 - 18 November 2016

Parque de la Ciencias hosted the 2016 Ecsite Directors Forum in Granada, Spain. A new format was introduced, combining  insightful keynotes on the "Unusual partners, strategic alliances" theme, participation from Ecsite members, local discoveries, peer learning workshops and opportunities to interact with the Ecsite Board. Social highlights included a special science-themed visit to the Alhambra, a flamenco performance and an evening visit of Parque de las Ciencias.

The Techmania science centre hosted in the 2015 Ecsite Directors Forum in Pilsen, Czech Republic, 2015 European Capital of Culture. Four keynote speakers explored the potential of Corporate Social Responsibility for the cultural and scientific sector.

12 November 2014 - 14 November 2014

Hosted by the AHHAA Science Centre in Tartu (Estonia), the 2014 Ecsite Directors Forum gathered senior managers of Ecsite Full member organizations. Four keynote speeches explored the “Downloading the future” theme. A warm thank you to AHHAA, who orchestrated an inspiring top-quality event that held its promise to explore "everything you want to know - and should know - about the future!"

19 November 2013 - 21 November 2013

Pavilhão do Conhecimento - Ciência Viva welcomed 54 senior managers from 18 different European countries to Lisbon. Four keynote speakers engaged attendees in strategic dialogues around the concept “More science, more beauty, more public”. Participants also put their heads together in two Ecsite strategic workshops analysing priorities within the new European framework programme for research and innovation (Horizon 2020) and discussing Ecsite members survey results.

The "2012: Rocking the Balance" Directors Forum was hosted by Teknikens Hus science centre in Luleå, Sweden. It focused on the themes of diversity, inclusion, gender balance and overcoming social stereotypes in science and technology.

Our world is evolving at a faster and faster rate making it necessary for us to quickly adapt and change. Some changes and new developments are crucial for science centers and science museums. The 2011 Directors Forum was co-organized by Odysseum Science Adventure in Cologne (Germany) and Continium Discovery Center in Kerkrade (Netherlands). It took a look at our changing professional world from two different angles: crossing borders within our own field, but also crossing borders as a way of reaching out to learn from other sectors.
