Science ♥ society

How did the Universe form? What is it made of? Is there life out there?

Nowadays we are able to address these questions using the most exquisite instruments ever built.

Experts from ESA will share the latest scientific discoveries of current space missions, the plans for future ones as well as the remarkable technology advancements achieved in space exploration. From the Gaia satellite to the upcoming projects JUICE and ARTEMIS, ESA missions are providing an extraordinary amount of data aiming to better understand the Universe and our planet.

The session will include discussions on the novel knowledge obtained through observations of the Universe from Space, as well as examples of its practical applications to address crucial challenges on our planet. For instance, the continuous support of the scientific community studying climate change with ESA Earth observation missions, the cooperation with the European Council to develop an independent navigation system (Galileo) and the technological projects to tackle the growing problem of space debris.

Outcomes: what will participants get from this session? Skills, knowledge, experience etc.

This session will allow participants to discover the latest news on current and future space missions while sharing resources and innovative ways to engage with the public visiting European Science Centres and Museums.

Speakers will share new communication strategies and tools on how best to inform the public on new scientific discoveries, while fostering critical thinking and a sense of global citizenship in a new era of big data and continuous exposure to (fake)news.
