What's the best way to organise a science centre? There are likely as many answers to that question as there are science centres. You'll find functional and flat, matrix and team-based, and others - as well as combinations of these. We would like to hear from managers and staff members at different institutions about their experience working in various structures.

Outcomes: what will participants get from this session? Skills, knowledge, experience etc.

Knowledge about various organisational designs and how they work in different settings

In 2020 VilVite went from a functional to a team-based structure without departments and middle managers. How did it go? VilVite's CEO will share the background and the goals for the reorganisation, as well as some results, three years after.

Mikko will emphasise the empowerment of the managerial level while the three directors of Heureka prepare the proposals for the manager meeting. He'll include a historical perspective and structure as a striking contrast.
Kim Gladstone Herlev

Kim will focus on his experiences with organizational structure/design during times of crisis, with examples from the rebuilding of Experimentarium and the corona pandemic. What did he learn from the acute situations about quick decision-making, maintaining trust from the staff, the board and external partners, and internal and external communication that could be useful in the "new normal"?
Deputy Director

Pilvi will talk about jobs that come and go: AHAA has lately cut down on assisting jobs thanks to digitalisation and other positions (such as head of finance) due to outsourcing. Which are the main pros and cons of these approaches to organising a science centre?
