Natural history museums are in a phase of renewal and institutions thrive to reinvent themselves. Some renew old buildings, others move into completely new spaces. Large renewal projects stretch over years and come with their own challenges that most institutions are not prepared for. In retrospect, you’ll often hear about things that colleagues would do differently today. What are these challenges? How can we learn from each other’s experiences and what is the secret to not screw it up?
Join us for a session where 3 museum makers give insight into their projects and discuss major challenges.
All projects are in different phases of renewal: Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin works on its preliminary concept, Natural History Museum Basel has started the construction of a new building and Natural History Museum of Denmark prepares to move into new premises.
Outcomes: what will participants get from this session? Skills, knowledge, experience etc.
Participants get exclusive insight into four ongoing museum renewal projects and will learn from the different approaches and strategies presented. Participants will be able to discuss with the speakers, share their own experiences and questions and think together about potential solutions - or how to be prepared - for some of the challenges discussed.
