"How much is the world? The ecological footprint"

The topic of the exhibition is the ecological footprint. We eat, wear clothes and produce thousands of things that define our lives. For a long time nature seemed to be an unlimited resource. But is this really true?

The exhibition explains how the ecological footprint does make our consumption measurable: which renewable resources do we have available every year? And: how do we use them? How big is the world’s ability to regenerate resources and absorb waste in a limited time period?

But most important is: which actors can do what to use the natural resources in a more thoughtful way?

The exhibition consists of a giant foot and a huge footprint combining ten experimenting stations. The footprint part does explain the most important facts of the footprint and how the calculation does work. Children can also play a simple resource game there.

The foot does host seven interactive experimenting stations to find out more about the demands and opportunities to reduce the footprint and to live within the resources of the Earth. Individual as well as regional, national and global actions are shown. There are more informative exhibits for older children and adults but also interactive ones for younger children.

Two films do give a more emotional access. One film station is a participative project: visitors are invited to send in their own films on good or bad examples of their daily environment using natural resources. The best films are shown at the exhibit.

The visitors can experiment with the concept of the ecological footprint and find out that there are ways to save our resources and to live sustainable within the biocapacity of our world.

They do not only see that there are regional, national and global demands and opportunities to realise sustainability but that themselves can contribute with their daily way of living and consuming.

The exhibition does not only show the acuteness of this topic but also that there are a lot of options for improvement.
