The Fascinating World of the Pyramids

Pyramids are counted as one of the Seven Wonders of the World and are
source for inspiration for many areas of life. The stunning
monuments still provoke fascination. The turnkey Exhibition shed light on the
questions that arose during the last years.

What do we really know about pyramids? How were they constructed? What’s the connection between pyramids and obelisk? What is their significance and how did they spread to the whole world? The exhibition brings light into the dark. With its 150 original objects, 11 true to scale models, hands-on elements and films the turnkey exhibition tells a story of 5000 years of stunning history.

The exhibition reveals the perfection with which the pyramids were constructed. Statues, tomb reliefs, signet rings, models and art objects as well as the reconstruction of a burial chamber give an insight into the conceptions of the afterlife and rituals of the ancient Egyptians.

On this view, the exhibition showcases a unique collection of artefacts from ancient Egypt to the 20th century. Various detailed models of pyramids and monuments give visitors the chance to look inside the secret chambers and passages hidden from the public eye. With highlights, such as the fragment of the oldest obelisk in the world from 1290 BC, a replica of the burial chamber of Sennedjem in its original size or a thrilling audio-visual reconstruction of the secret freemason underground vault in the Pantheon in Wörlitz from the 18th century, this is the first comprehensive presentation of Western fascination for the pyramids in art and culture.

The exhibition was curated by Dr. Christian Tietze and Dr. Rainer Vollkommer, director of the Liechtenstein National Museum and is a cooperation with the Liechtenstein National Museum and the Mamuz in Mistelbach.
