Discover Steampunk: a Fantastical hands-on adventure

Discover Steampunk is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts,
and Mathematics) exhibition focusing on creative problem solving by using
functional art sculptures, modeled after famous historical figures.

Through a series of galleries featuring one-of-kind, hands-on interactive Steampunk sculptures, visitors learn STEAM principles, the power of imagination and creative problem solving, empowering them to dream and become Makers themselves.

Discover Steampunk is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) exhibition focusing on creative problem solving by using functional art sculptures, modeled after famous historical figures. Each “humachine” Steampunk sculpture is made from repurposed period antiques and salvage objects infused with modern technology. Discover Steampunk teaches STEAM principles coupled with lessons about the power of human imagination.

Rooted in the aesthetic and cultural Steampunk movement, the centerpieces of Discover Steampunk are large-scale, moving sculptures— made entirely from found industrial objects—that depict some of history’s most visionary writers, artists and inventors, such as HG Wells and Mary Shelley, returning to the present-day as the very machines they once made famous.

Hands-on and highly interactive, Discover Steampunk engages visitors in various disciplines including art, science, and history, while encouraging them to become a part of the Maker Movement. These inspirational, fantastical, kinetic sculptures inspire visitors to celebrate the past while setting a path for a re-imagined future!

At the top level, the exhibition explores and explains Steampunk itself by combining the central sculptures of artist Bruce Rosenbaum with other works of art and Steampunk inspired exhibitry. It also invites visitors on a journey, rooted in STEAM principles where they can learn about the important convergence of Science and Art. In addition, the exhibition provides valuable life lessons for each visitor, encouraging her or him to pursue their passions, work together, and—by doing so—create a better future for all of us.
