Bears, Myths and Realities

The fascinating story of a mythical animal

BEARS, Myths and Realities takes you on a discovery of the bear - Man’s wild
double - and our relationship with him, located somewhere between fear and admiration.

As a whole, the exhibition delves into stories about bears, but also explores the complex perception Man has of bears. Where does the legend of the Great Bear come from? How big was the Cave Bear? Is it possible to see a bear in the Pyrenees?

Organised into 3 main themes (culture, nature and society), a wealth of fun and educational tools will immerse you in the life of the Bear.

Compare yourself to a life-size bear with the 8 silhouettes, hear stories from the world over, visit a bear’s den, or go out into the field with the researchers.

  • The bear: prehistoric origins
  • Bear stories
  • An encounter with a bear
  • Living together
  • The mirror animal

Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle de Toulouse

The Natural History Museum of Toulouse

150 years after its founding, the Museum again opened its doors in 2008 after remaining closed for 10 years while it was undergoing a complete redesign. Now reorganised to reflect the relationship between man, nature and environment, its aim is to be a knowledge sharing institution that imparts its own particular perspective while instilling a sense of wonder and delight in visitors.

The exhibition circuit is designed to arouse curiosity and awareness of the position we occupy on this planet and how we can stay in harmony with it.
