Founded in 1794, the Musée des Arts et Métiers is the French National Museum of science and technology, one of the oldest in the world.
The museum hosts an exceptional collection, remarkable both for its size (nearly 80,000 objects and 15,000 drawings) and for the diversity of the themes covered. The galleries are organized in seven sections (scientific instruments, materials, construction, communication, energy, mechanics and transport). Its most famous gallery is the one described in Umberto Eco's book : "Foucault's Pendulum".
Reopened in 2000 after a major renovation project, the Musée des Arts et Métiers offers an important cultural program, intended for a wide audience, in particular through its educational activities and temporary exhibitions, and has significant documentary resources in the fields of the history of techniques and industrial heritage.
