Ottmar Hörl - Second Life 100 Workers

Ottmar Hörl is acclaimed throughout the world for his large-scale temporary projects focussing on art as a means of communication. His works have been showcased around the world and depict eminent figures such as Karl Marx, Charles the Great, Richard Wagner and Martin Luther. Ottmar Hörl's "Second Life – 100 Workers" is an exciting sculptural project specially created for the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site.

Wearing helmets and work clothing, his figures are reverential representations of the ironworkers that used to toil at the Völklinger Hütte facility. The project is designed to pay homage to the Völklinger Hütte's central theme of work and workers. "Second Life – 100 Workers" at the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site will be accompanied by a retrospective exhibition of Ottmar Hörl's works.

Weltkulturerbe Völklinger Hütte - Europäisches Zentrum für Kunst und Industriekultur

The Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site is the only fully preserved ironworks of industrial culture. Covering an area of more than 600.000 m2, the gigantic ironworks are a must-see attraction for anyone seeking the exceptional. On a tiny space it displays a collection of milestones in high technology of the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, the Völklinger Hütte forms part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites, like the Cheops pyramid in Egypt, the Great Wall of China, the Acropolis in Athen and Cologne Cathedral.

Where once there were chimneys smoking and a deafening noise was part of everyday work, is now a place of concerts and large-scale exhibitions.
