The Planetarium Science Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing the third local affiliate fair, Intel Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science & Engineering Fair (Intel BASEF 2012), in collaboration with Intel Co. This competition unites promising young scientists, ages 14–18 from Alexandria and other governorates to showcase their scientific and research talents. They compete to win the first three places to join the Intel ISEF 2012 competition, one of the largest pre-college science fairs in the world, held in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, USA, 13-18 May 2012, in addition to other regional and international science competitions. Intel BASEF welcomes students who are capable of creative thinking and have innovative ideas in any field of science or engineering. Intel BASEF covers 17 science categories, aiming to achieve better aligning of the judges and students projects with the judging at the Intel ISEF. Participants are expected to choose a certain topic under one of the categories, in the field of their interests. They will then raise a hypothesis and prepare a research paper, a data handbook, a prototype (optional), a display board, an abstract and a presentation (optional).
