Museo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (MUNCYT)

The National Museum of Science and Technology (MUNCYT) is a State Museum that depends from the General Bureau of Research (Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology) and it is managed by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).

MUNCYT is member of the Spanish Network of Museum and the International Council of Museums (ICOM) & ICOM International Committee for Museums and Collections of Science and Technology

MUNCYT mission is the promotion of the scientific knowledge and culture through its collections.

MUNCYT has the role of social reference and meeting point in scientific and technological issues for its public.

The main goals of the museum are:

  • To collect, preserve, document, study and point out the value of the scientific and technological heritage
  • To contribute to a high-quality scientific education
  • To be the showcase for the Spanish science & technology

MUNCYT organises temporary exhibitions in its venues and associated organisations and holds a wide range of activities like conferences, educational workshops, guided tours, etc., collaborating with the teacher training and publishing catalogues, and scientific dissemination material, between other initiatives.

MUNCYT conserves more than 19.000 items between scientific instruments, technological equipment, transportation vehicles, machinery and industrial tools from the XVI Century to the present day. Most of the collections come from educational centres, universities, historical scientific institutions, private collections and donations.

MUNCYT has three venues: MUNCYT Coruña, MUNCYT Alcobendas and MUNCYT Madrid.
