The taste tests – exploring the frontier food research in Europe

The taste tests: Can science help us eat better?

Is there a way science can help us to eat better and live healthier lives? Of course there is! And you might be surprised by how much of top research in this area has been going on in Europe. This has been largely possible thanks to the European Research Council (ERC) which has been supporting blue-sky research in Europe for almost a decade now.

The influence of what we eat on the major risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease; the healthy benefits of the Mediterranean diet; the reasons why do we eat when we aren’t hungry or the latest research on metabolism and its relationship with being healthy or sick. Those are some of the building blocks of a 6-month food theme, titled “The taste tests: Can science help us eat better?” that has been launched today by the ERC=Science2 project!

Over the course of the next 6 months, the ScienceSquared project will put out multimedia content which presents often complex scientific research in a digestible and enticing way. If you would like to catch a glimpse of what is all about, make sure you visit some of the upcoming public events organized by Ecsite members in the Czech Republic, Poland and Bulgaria or go straight to www.sciencesquared.eu for all the available content and details.
