The Ars Electronica Festival 2019 was the setting for a trifecta of accomplishments for the spaceEU project: the kick-off of the brand new exhibition Step into Space, the start of an ambitious one-year engagement campaign, and the launch of the project website!

Step into Space puts a versatile everyday object, the ladder, at the core of its exhibition architecture. Indispensable in getting astronauts from the Lunar Module to the surface of the Moon back in 1969, the ladder becomes an exploratory gateway to the presence of space in our daily lives, Earth seen through the lens of space, and how space stimulates innovation and inspires new thinking. The achievements of space science have shown us that we can make the impossible possible – this message will be spread further by 9 other spaceEU partners that will build and display the exhibition at their venues in the coming year. Moreover, the open-source modules curated by Ars Electronica will be published online in the course of 2020, making this inspiring exhibition available to the science engagement community.

spaceEU has also planned a year of innovative engagement activities for students, families and youth, with a particular focus on inclusion. Among the formats that were already tried and tested in Linz were a Space Café and a space4youth workshop with the teenage film-makers behind Blue Moon.
