Job: UK news intern for Science magazine

Science magazine is accepting applications for a paid, 6-month news internship based in Cambridge, UK. The internship is expected to run from June or July through November or December 2020. Our interns have gone on to staff jobs at Science, Nature, Science News, NPR, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Scientific American. Pay is expected to be £450-500 per week.

Responsibilities: The intern will dive right in like a staff reporter, writing news stories for Science’s website and print magazine. You will cover breaking news in addition to developing longer, enterprise stories. You should expect to cover not just study results, but also important science policy developments in the UK and Europe.

Qualifications: Top candidates will have training in both science and journalism, alongside experience reporting and writing articles for a general audience. We want a reporter with a strong work ethic who can pursue stories tenaciously. Given the pandemic, remote work outside of our Cambridge, UK office is likely. But you must live in the UK and have the right to work here.

How to apply: Send an email describing your interest in the position, along with a CV and three clips to European news editor Eric Hand with “UK internship application” as the subject line. Applications are due by Friday, 22 May.
