How do we perceive sound and music? ERC-funded research arrives in Latvia

On 27-30 September, Curiosity Centre ZINOO will present the latest ERC-funded research on music by running a series of activities on the theme of "Music and sound".

Several workshops and hands-on activities for pupils and adults will be organised around ZINOO's interactive music exhibits and the ERC=Science2 stand that will be displayed at the Curiosity Centre.

A presentation on "Different instruments and different sounds" is schedulted to take place at ZINOO on 27 September from 13.00 to 14.00, and an introduction on the "Physics of sound" will also be given from 15.00 to 16.00.

On 28 September, the project's stand will be located to the city centre of Cesis for the European Researchers' Night, where a live concert in the dark will be given by Latvian musician Gundega Graudina who will do an experimental performance. It will be followed by a presentation from ERC grantee Fang Liu, who will present her research on how the human brain processes music during its production and perception.

On Saturday 29 September, ERC grantee Michael Ellison will talk about his research on finding a common musical language between the Turkish makam and Western classical and contemporary music at ZINOO.
