Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, Interaction Design

Established in 2001 at Zurich University of the Arts, the subject area Interaction Design (IAD) is an educational and research environment in which we explore and create interactive experiences. We apply design thinking to real-world issues and develop novel interfaces, services and systems. Focused on opportunities emerging in our networked society, IAD’s members work on concrete projects for business clients and users, as well as pursue academic research relevant for interaction design community. We offer study programs on Bachelor, Master and PhD level (PhD cooperation programmes in partnership with international universities) with exciting courses in the fields of embodied technology, design theory and practice.

On 1 August 2007 the School of Art and Design Zurich (HGKZ) and the Zurich School of Music, Drama and Dance (HMT) merged to become one of Europe’s largest universities of the arts: the Zurich University of the Arts (Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, ZHdK). Comprising more than 2000 students, the University offers a unique range of programmes from further education opportunities to undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees in design, film, art, media, music, dance, theatre and art education. the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) is strongly committed to undertaking research into the arts and design, and the cultural studies and technological issues intimately related to such an endeavour. ZHdK research and development (R&D) achievements, and their dissemination across the arts, science, education, and a wider public make an indispensable contribution to promoting innovation in society – a core concern of the ZHdK as an arts university.
