NAUSICAA national Sea Experience Centre

Since it opened in 1991, NAUSICAA, the National Sea Experience Centre, based in Boulogne-sur-Mer, at the crossroads between three major European cities – Paris, London and Brussels – has attracted 15 million visitors, 40% of whom have come from outside France.

NAUSICAA, is more than just an aquarium. It is a unique place where visitors can discover the marine environment. At once entertaining, educational and scientific, the Centre derives its originality from its main focus on the relationship between Man and the sea. The mission that the Centre has set itself is primarily to raise public awareness about the importance of managing the oceans and their resources. In 1998 UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) granted NAUSICAA the status of Centre of Excellence in recognition of its awareness-raising operations.

Services proposed: NAUSICAA contains several café / bars and boutiques, a bookshop, a multi-media centre and a restaurant. NAUSICAA is a bi-lingual attraction, and many of its productions written in French and English are partly financed by the EU, in conjunction with Kent County Council. NAUSICAA is now offering audio-guides tours in 4 languages: French, English, Dutch and German.
