Directors Forum

Every autumn, the senior managers of Ecsite's Full member institutions meet for a two-day seminar to exchange views, make trends and discuss key developments in science engagement. Each year, the event is hosted by one of the participating organisations and strategic discussions centre around a special theme.

19 November 2013 - 21 November 2013

Pavilhão do Conhecimento - Ciência Viva welcomed 54 senior managers from 18 different European countries to Lisbon. Four keynote speakers engaged attendees in strategic dialogues around the concept “More science, more beauty, more public”. Participants also put their heads together in two Ecsite strategic workshops analysing priorities within the new European framework programme for research and innovation (Horizon 2020) and discussing Ecsite members survey results.

21 November 2012 - 23 November 2012

The "2012: Rocking the Balance" Directors Forum was hosted by Teknikens Hus science centre in Luleå, Sweden. It focused on the themes of diversity, inclusion, gender balance and overcoming social stereotypes in science and technology.

24 November 2011 - 26 November 2011

Our world is evolving at a faster and faster rate making it necessary for us to quickly adapt and change. Some changes and new developments are crucial for science centers and science museums. The 2011 Directors Forum was co-organized by Odysseum Science Adventure in Cologne (Germany) and Continium Discovery Center in Kerkrade (Netherlands). It took a look at our changing professional world from two different angles: crossing borders within our own field, but also crossing borders as a way of reaching out to learn from other sectors.

2 November 2010 - 4 November 2010

50 Ecsite members participated in the Ecsite Directors' Forum 2010, hosted by the Natural History Museum, London. “Bad Science” writer Ben Goldacre, agricultural biologist Angelika Hilbeck, cultural sector expert John Holden and HR specialist Duncan Mayo were among the keynote speakers at this year’s Forum, 2-4 December 2010, which addressed the theme of change. This event is the most important annual meeting for directors of science centres and museums in Europe.

In 2009 the Ecsite Directors' Forum was held in Experimentarium, Hellerup, Denmark from the 20-21 November 2009.

The directors of the 90 Full Members of Ecsite discussed the questions: How do we best communicate the science behind the climate change? How do we communicate the risk that the climate change imposes upon us?

The 2008 Ecsite Directors Forum was hosted by Museo de las Ciencias Principe Felipe - Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias in Valencia, Spain. Under the theme "the power of people," directors had the opportunity to discuss the role of human resources in their institution.
