The ACCENT project (Action on Climate Change through Engagement, Networks and Tools) was launched in April 2009 as a result of the European science centres and science museums' decision to strengthen their local level efforts to address the issue of climate change.

ACCENT was a European action, gathering and coordinating the practices in science communication and public engagement about climate change issues in the 15 partner institutions, and further afield.

A wide range of activities concerning climate change were organised by each of the partner institutions in order to raise visitors' knowledge and inspire and engage people to take positive actions.

Ecsite's role included coordination of the activities run by participating institutions, and the development of the Accent web platform. Ecsite members involved in the project consisting of science centres and museums provided an ideal space for public engagement. Particularly over the last years, these institutions have transformed into places for debate and discussion; a space where the public and the scientist can come together and exchange experiences and points of view.

Withing the ACCENT project, Ecsite members designed and developed activities, exhibitions, exhibits, school labs, science demonstrations, participatory games, teacher training sessions, lectures and debates, all of which took place across Europe in 2010 in order to engage the public in the issues of climate change.

ACCENT was supported by the Science in Society programme of the European Commission’s Framework Programme 7.
