MEDIA ADVISORY, 30 May 2013

GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN – Ecsite, the European network of science centres and museums will draw close to 1,000 science communicators from accross Europe to its Annual Conference held this year at Universeum Science Discovery Centre in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The three-day event will showcase the latest research and developments in science communication through dynamic sessions, debates, workshops and trade show called the Business Bistro. Pre-conference meetings and workshops, held two days prior to the main conference (6-8 June 2013), will give in-depth insight into numerous aspects of the science communication field.

The diverse 75-session programme boasts over 380 speakers and is aimed at professionals working in science centres or museums, natural history museums, universities, aquaria, zoos, research institutes and private companies.

Features of this year’s conference include:

  • Baroness Susan Greenfield, neuroscientist at the University of Oxford who has been awarded 30 honorary Degrees from British and foreign universities, will deliver what promises to be a compelling keynote presentation, “the neuroscience of creativity – Making the most of 21st century technology.”
  • A keynote address by Dominique Pestre – a social and political historian whose current work encompasses the relations between the so-called techno-sciences and society at large, including the economy, politics, and war.
  • New to this year’s conference – a Maker Space set up for the duration of the event. It will be the place to get hands-on with tools and materials like 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering irons and electronic components to develop one’s own innovations.

Journalists can register FREE OF CHARGE. For more information about the conference, including a full online programme, visit: www.ecsite.eu/annual_conference

Interviews can be arranged and media assistance is available on-site. The Pre-Conference (4-5 June 2013) will take place at Universeum, while the main conference (6-8 June 2013) happens at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre.
