PSC Participation in the First Egypt's Science Month

1st Egypt’s Science Month is a celebration of science, it aims at increasing the awareness of the contribution of science to our society and how science is important in our life! Egypt’s Science Month is gathering different foundations and initiatives concerned with science and scientists and their goal is to provide opportunities to people of all ages to take part in all science and technologies activities.

The PSC is participating in this initiative with a number of Science Events in March and April 2014;

  • 16-18 March 2014, Intel Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science and Engineering Fair (Intel BASEF) Intel BASEF 2014 is an affiliate fair of Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), this year we will have 150 projects competing to win the first three places to represent Egypt in Intel ISEF 2014 in the USA. Other awards are granted to other first places winners by category and other criteria.

  • 20 March 2014, Master Classes Each Masterclass is a one-day-activity, where researchers invite high school students and let them be scientists for one day. The core activity is a measurement with real data from CERN (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, or European Council for Nuclear Research). Having performed the measurements, students participate in an international video conference, together with three or four other institutes, according to the schedule, and moderators from CERN.
  • 24 March 2014, Yuri Gagarin Celebrating eighty years on the occasion of the birth of the first astronaut in the world, “Yuri Gagarin”, the Russian Cultural Center donated the Library of Alexandria bronze bust of the astronaut. Recognizing his role in unveiling the skies, the statue will be displayed at the entrance to the Planetarium Theater, it will be unveiled during a ceremony held by the Library of Alexandria in conjunction with the Russian Embassy and the Russian Center on 24 March 2014.
  • 31 March 2014, Water Day The PSC is celebrating the water day in collaboration with Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Francophone Cultural Activities Center. Schools students will be invited to attend an interesting lecture about water at the BA Conference Center followed by a workshop on water characteristics and conservation.
  • Science Festivity 2014 Activities

Pre-Event Activities 4-5 April 2014, Construction Workshop at Green Plaza, Alexandria 11-12 April 2014, Construction Workshop at City Center, Alexandria The PSC will perform the construction workshop, which is a miniature of a construction site at the most famous shopping malls in Alexandria. This is to teach children the basics of engineering, safety, construction and other scientific concepts in an attractive and entertaining manners to both children and parents.

Event 16-17 April 2014, Science Festivity at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria The PSC will organize the eighth Science Festivity 2014 under the overarching theme of “Human Life”. The event is free open to the public at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Plaza, where the science village hosts different schools and institiutions present their hands-on activities to the visitors. It is designed for school students and families.

Post-Event Activities 25-26 April 2014, Science Festivity at Sohag Regional Center, Sohag The PSC will partner with Egyptian National Scientific & Technical Information Network (ENSTINET) to hold the festivity in Upper Egypt. This is a breakthrough as it is planned to have a similar festivity but on a smaller scale in Sohag to serve a new sector of Egypt and raise the public awareness of the importance of informal science education.
