First day of Ecsite pre-conference best of

Pre-conference workshop participants are wrapping up on the first day of the Ecsite Annual Conference in The Hague. Museon is hosting a perfect event: gorgeous weather, relaxed lunch on the museum terrace… and of course inspiring professional exchanges. Participants to the “Social inclusion and engineering design process” session organised by the Ecsite THE Group had fun building paper planes and tables out of newspapers – and did some in-depth thinking about the engineering design process (EDP) and the role of facilitators in encouraging visitors to follow their own problem-solving paths.   Colleagues in the “Who are your visitors?” workshop facilitated by the Ecsite REV Group questioned audience segmentation, reflected on the way identities can feed into participatory exhibition design and looked at teachers’ motivations for visiting science centres.   Meanwhile, space stakeholders were busy looking “Beyond the horizon” in the “Space for science centres and museums” session organised by the Ecsite Space Group. The Rosetta campaign will continue to reach out to space lovers and space beginners in the coming months.   Other highlights of the day include a hand-made #ecsite1014 hash tag T-shirt and a Twitter call for ideas on the next 25 years of Ecsite conferences (#beyondecsite25).   Follow the pre-conference and conference on Twitter (#ecsite2014) and Flickr.
