Museo Civico di Scienze Naturali "Mario Realini"
The Museum of Natural Sciences of Malnate is founded in 1979 by the will of the Municipal Authority and thanks to donations of materials (minerals and fossils mainly) by private citizens but especially for the passion and dedication of Mr . Mario Realini (collector of mineral sands and precious
stones) which was entitled the museum itself. Since 2005 the museum is managed by a Director-Conservative in charge of educational services, by the head of security and a manager of the care services. All these figures are voluntary. In addition, the museum has an agreement with an association of the sector also constituted by volunteers, whose name is GAMMAR (Group Associated Mario Realini Museum). The development of the museum was completely renovated in 2007 but every year his collections are enriched with new findings of major scientific value.
Now there are eight areas:
• Precious stones section;
• Lithological section;
• Minerals section;
• Paleontological section;
• Paleethnological section;
• Psammophilous section;
• Zoological section
• Temporary exhibitions. The museum visit was prepared for both the
public is already familiar to those who for the first time enter into a museum, with explanatory panels and captions.
