Jaermuseet

Jærmuseet is the museum for the municipalities Randaberg, Sola, Sandnes, Gjesdal, Klepp, Time and Hå as well as the regional science center for Southwest Norway.

Our mission as a museum is to document and tell the history of the region, and as a science centre we shall encourage the interest for science and techonology.

Jærmuseet is a family of museums at 13 different locations across the Jæren region. The two largest museums are Vitenfabrikken (the Science Factory) in Sandnes and Vitengarden (the Science Farm) in Nærbø.It also runs an outreach science programme called Science Circus.

The natural sciences and recent local history are the two common themes of all the museums. Each museum offers a chance to learn about different ascpect of the Jæren region and how the local environment has shaped everyday life.

The museum was awarded “the museum of the year award 2009” in Norway, as well as the “European Micheletti award 2009”.

Total numbers of visitors in 2017, was 215.000.
