The main purpose of the Ciência Viva Centres Network is to spread scientific and technological culture among the wider Portuguese public. The Ciência Viva Centres are dynamic places of learning and fun, where scientific curiosity and the desire to learn are stimulated. In the Lousal Ciência Viva Centre the visitor is first invite to do a time travel and go back to the period when the Lousal mine was still active, when ores that have formed millions of years ago were mined out from this mine by thousands of miners. Today it is a land reinvented by the will of many people and sustained by the richest ore: Knowledge.
