Acquario di Genova

Costa Edutainment S.p.A., is a service company that deals in the management of the Aquarium of Genoa, built on the occasion of Expo’ 92, celebration of the fifth centennial of the discovery of the New World by Christopher Colombus. The overall goal of its activity is to answer to the growing demands for a qualitative employment of free time, in which cultural and educational experiences are joined within the spectacle of the setting and the immediacy of the offer.

Always faithful to this philosophy, Costa Edutainment has increased its range of activities in the general context of the cultural goods, by means of the total or partial management of museums, picture-galleries, expositions, archaeological sites and parks. Its core business nevertheless remains the management of the Aquarium of Genoa, which represents not only a reality of extraordinary scientific and didactic importance but also one of the main cultural centers visited in Italy, and the highest visited one in Genoa. On an economic level, its leading role as an attraction for Genoa translates into a minimum inflow of 35 million Euros per year. The principal reason for its lasting success is tied to a continued process of qualitative improvement and renewal. Every year, new species are presented to the public and new environments are recreated. Another winning characteristic of the Aquarium of Genoa is tied to the success of a “public-private” agreement. The Aquarium’s structure is property of the City of Genoa but is managed and developed with new investments made by Costa Edutainment Spa, constituted in 1992 as an entrepreneurial venture by the Costa family. More than a simple tourist attraction, the Aquarium of Genoa is an educational, scientific and cultural pole that aims to develop and consolidate awareness about the sustainable relationship between man and sea. Its educational vocation is confirmed by an analysis of the target groups of visitors, which predominantly made up of young people and young adults (more than 70%), and with a number of students, which in 2003 has amounted to 125,000.
