Directors Forum

Every year, the directors of Ecsite’s full member institutions meet for a two-day seminar to exchange views and discuss key issues. Each year, the Directors’ Forum is hosted by one of the participating institutions and discussions centre around a special theme.

A carefully thought-out programme is produced each year by Ecsite together with the host institution. The theme of the Forum often follows current hot topics.

In the past, these topics have included “science in society” in 2006 in Naples, Italy, “partnerships between our institutions and private companies or foundations” in 2007 in Dresden, Germany and in 2008 “human resources” in Valencia, Spain.

The focus of this year’s Ecsite Directors Forum will be Rocking the Balance on the themes of diversity, inclusion, gender balance and overcoming societal stereotypes in science and technology.

50 Ecsite members participated in the Ecsite Directors’ Forum 2010, hosted by the Natural History Museum, London. “Bad Science” writer Ben Goldacre, agricultural biologist Angelika Hilbeck, cultural sector expert John Holden and HR specialist Duncan Mayo were among the keynote speakers at this year’s Forum, 2-4 December 2010, which addressed the theme of change. This event is the most important annual meeting for directors of science centres and museums in Europe.

In 2009 the Ecsite Directors’ Forum was held in Experimentarium, Hellerup, Denmark from the 20-21 November 2009.

The directors of the 90 Full Members of Ecsite discussed the questions: How do we best communicate the science behind the climate change?

The Ecsite Director’s Forum opened on Friday November 21st, welcoming a wide range of science centre and museum directors from across Europe. Our hosts this year are the Museo de las Ciencias Principe Felipe – Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias.
