Saltwater

Saltwater – Aboriginal Art for the first time outside of Australia in an
extraordinary traveling exhibition. This unique exhibition presents 50 bark
paintings on Eucalyptus bark and about 8 log coffin poles, paintings on
hollowed trees.

For many of the Aborigines the publication of the Bark Paintings means a transgression of rules, as the paintings show secrets of their tribal spiritual language, signs and symbols. The Saltwater Collection reveals the spiritual and legal basis of the Yolngu people´s ownership of land in Northern Australia. The young generation convinced the tribal leaders that publishing the Bark Paintings is an important step to communicate their culture and to secure their traditional land rights.
