Job: Lecturer/ Senior lecturer in science communication

Science in Society invites applications for the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Science Communication. The successful candidate will have a PhD in an appropriate humanities or social science discipline, relevant publications in refereed journals and books, teaching experience at undergraduate level, and experience supervising postgraduates.

Alongside maintaining a strong research programme, the appointed academic will be required to recruit and supervise research students, co-teach a 300-level course in science communication, and teach into/coordinate at least two of the online undergraduate courses offered by the group (currently in energy and society, contemporary issues in science in society, history of science and Antarctic science and culture). There will also be opportunities to create and contribute to new courses, depending on the appointee’s specific areas of interest and expertise.

As well as having proven teaching skills and an excellent research portfolio in the general field of science communication and public engagement with science, Science in Society would be particularly interested in candidates with teaching and research interest and experience in: mātauranga māori; issues in science in society in the wider Asia-Pacific region; and/or science and technology studies.

The appointment will be either at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level depending upon the level of proven experience of the successful candidate. Experience or demonstrable potential for developing collaborative partnerships across and beyond a University environment would also be advantageous.
