Integrating children and teenagers in the decision making processes triggers their interest and makes them informed and active citizens. Hypatia believes in this and this is why the project has established various tools to involve them at all levels. Working directly with them is a core strategy of the project that has been extended to the communication campaign. We have created a rotating scheme of teenage editorial boards to give them a voice and why not say it, to help us communicate in a shared language and aesthetic.
In a new article for the Hypatia project, Marianne Achiam & Henriette T. Holmegaard from the Department of Science Education, University of Copenhagen explore gender exclusion mechanisms at work in museums and science centre and how many of these institutions are in the process of renewing their perspective on what it means to be (gender)-inclusive.
Summer's over, or that is what they say! But not everything is sad news....Keep reading because.... Hypatia team is almost ready to share the first activities of the toolkit with you. Meet us at EUCYS and at Science is Wonder-ful - The European Researchers Night at the Parlamentarium in Brussels and we'll tell you (and show) everything!
On 30 June 2016, Ecsite hosted the “Making your Business More Gender Inclusive: An Opportunity for Growth” workshop in the context of the Hypatia project. Keynotes brought political, economic and theoretical discussions to the table, and built a case for diversity, not only on moral grounds, but on industries’ bottom line.
We tried one of the Hypatia's module’s activities - and it was great!!!
Our newsletter's out! And this is big news, since we won't have many of these. Just 2 newsletter's a year, each curated by one of our partners, so they will probably be very different in tone, topics and contents.

On 21 April 2016, Hypatia launched Expect Everything, a dissemination campaign targeted at teenagers and aimed at engaging and captivating the interest of teenage girls in STEM. It takes over and builds on the legacy of the European Commission’s “Science: it's a girl thing” campaign, addressing and inviting teenagers to Expect Everything! This slogan embodies the spirit of STEM and encourages teenagers to stand up and say “yes, I do expect everything in my life! Equally, everything is expected from me!”
The winners of the 2016 EU Prize for Women Innovators were revealed yesterday, March 10 2016, in an award ceremony held in Brussels. Dr. Susana Sargento was the winner among a shortlist of 9 other women innovators. Veniaum, the company she co-funded, turns vehicles into Wi-Fi hotspots and builds city-scale vehicular networks that collect terabytes of urban data.
Today, February 11 is the International Day of Women & Girls in science. Science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations.
However, according to the 2021 UNESCO Science Report, female students make up just 28% of graduates in engineering and 40% of those in computer sciences. 33% of researchers are women, and they have made up to parity in life science in many countries.
