Beyond the Lab exhibition opening at Ars Electronica

Perhaps the Beyond the Lab exhibition is finally on show near you. It just opened in Hungary; on 30 June it will be opening in Malta; on 1 July in Belgium; and on 3 July in Latvia.

On 8th June in Brussels the STOA Committee of the European Parliament is organising an event that will feature some of the Sparks speakers.

The 5th Sparks newsletter, 'The freshness of an outsider’s look', is out and is well worth reading if you are interested in finding out how citizens can contribute to research, how healthcare is also in the hands of the crowd, how to implement RRI in science centres... and if you are simply interested in keeping track of our events.

As part of the Sparks touring exhibition, which is travelling all over Europe, each venue hosting the exhibition, is collecting examples of research practices done in the RRI approach. To complement the stories of citizen engaged in science, a local example of how RRI is or can be applied in research in the field of medicine and healthcare is presented. Sparks partners have been forming local partnerships with researchers, universities, NGOs and citizens to identify the object or the research that would be featured in the exhibition.

We are happy to tell the world that the Sparks exhibition "Beyond the Lab: the DIY Science Revolution" is in the closing phase of tour 2: Luxemburg Science Centre, Tycho Brahe Planetarium in Denmark, Blue World in Croatia and Parque de las Ciencias in Spain did an amazing job by displaying the exhibition and running participatory activities where citizens and scientists gathered around the fundamental questions of Responsible Research and Innovation: how are we getting involved in health issues that directly affect us?

Wouldn't it be nice to take a break during our daily routine and learn about new inventions, discoveries and collaborations that are taking place in our countries and that relate direclty to our health? To get in touch with innovators who are placing in the centre of their works the social needs, such as open source softwares for blood sugar tracks or sharing and learning from others who are suffering a same illness?
