The Ecsite network offers its members a wide variety of services.
Annual Conference
The Ecsite Annual Conference is the most prominent meeting of science communication professionals in Europe, bringing together 1000 professionals in the field. Ecsite members attend this event at reduced rates and often take part as speakers or convenors in the conference sessions.
Collaborative projects
Ecsite takes part in a number of collaborative projects, including many projects funded by the European Commission. These projects benefit the members both directly through participation and indirectly through the sharing of their outcomes.
Ecsite holds a strong advocacy role for the field of science centres and museums. In the month of February 2009 the network organised a successful event at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.
Directors’ Forum
The Directors’ Forum is an event available to Ecsite Full members, gathering the leaders of Europe’s science centres and museums for in-depth discussions and debates on key issues.
Thematic groups
In the last two years, Ecsite has created its first two thematic groups, or T-Groups. T-Groups are learning communities made up of experts from Ecsite institutions, driven by their will to share experience and knowledge. Nature Group aims to bring cross fertilisation among all the Ecsite members that are interested in nature. THE Group (Human interface and Explainers) is dedicated to building a learning community for explainers by investigating their roles and training practices.
Quarterly newsletter
Ecsite publishes a quarterly printed Newsletter that reaches all its members, with each issue addressing a specific theme related to the field. Ecsite institutions are encouraged to share their news and report on their activities via the newsletter, and the flow of information results in sharing of best practices and collaboration among the members of the community.
News is also sent around the network with the form of a monthly E-newsletter, communicating information on Ecsite’s activities and its members.
